Life Drawing at an Animation Studio

29 Sep

I’m into my 3rd week of a fantastic Character Animation course at Aardman studios, in Bristol. Whilst I’m developing my skills in CG animation, we also have various workshops and masterclasses, one of which is life drawing! Hurrah!

We’ve gone right back to basics when observing the figure – drawing from the inside out, using stick figures, or pin drawing. We started with simply drawing the lines of action, and gradually adding extra lines to show weight and to describe simple twists and posing. We’ve had two classes so far, and our tutor is trying to loosen the way we draw – we’ve done some super quick 10 seconds sketches, and even started drawing with the opposite hand! Below is a collection of my studies…I’m still yet to perfect my proportions, but hey…when will ever stop foreshortening the legs??
